Tuesday Morning Quarterback: Actual British Government Office -- Not a Monty Python Ministry: Last week there was controversy in the United Kingdom regarding the cover-up of an inquest into bribery in military contracting, this inquest being conducted by the government's Serious Fraud Office. Apparently in England humorous fraud is fine! Interested in a career in Serious Fraud enforcement?

You can waste your time on the other rides but this is the nearest to being alive

Shoot Out the Lights

When my heart breaks it breaks like the weather If you leave me now it'll thunder forever I wish I could please you tonight But my medicine just won't come right I'm walking on the wire and I'm falling Well who's going to shoe your feet? who's going to pay your rent? And who's going to stand by you? Who's going to cure the heart of a man in need? Under the ocean at the bottom of the sea You can't hear the storm, it's as peaceful as can be It's just the motion Keep the blind down on the window keep the pain on the inside Just watching the dark. Just watching the dark he might laugh but you won't see him As he thunders through the night Shoot out the lights. Shoot out the lights You can waste your time on the other rides but this is the nearest to being alive

Variations on the Word "Sleep"

I would like to watch you sleeping,
which may not happen.
I would like to watch you,
sleeping. I would like to sleep
with you, to enter
your sleep as its smooth dark wave
slides over my head

and walk with you through that lucent
wavering forest of bluegreen leaves
with its watery sun & three moons
towards the cave where you must descend,
towards your worst fear

I would like to give you the silver
branch, the small white flower, the one
word that will protect you
from the grief at the center
of your dream, from the grief
at the center. I would like to follow
you up the long stairway
again & become
the boat that would row you back
carefully, a flame
in two cupped hands
to where your body lies
beside me, and you enter
it as easily as breathing in

I would like to be the air
that inhabits you for a moment
only. I would like to be that unnoticed
& that necessary.

10 Things I Hate About You

1. I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair.
2. I hate the way you drive my car.
3. I hate it when you stare.
4. I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind.
5. I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme.
6. I hate the way you're always right.
7. I hate it when you lie.
8. I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry.
9. I hate it when you're not around, and the fact that you didn't call.
10. But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.
